The problems:
Identity Theft
Sites have different rules for password generation
Aging memory (mine)
Large numbers of passwords to remember
Multiple sign ins for the same site. eg. American Airlines Frequent Flyer Mileage site for me, wife, and daughter.
Infrequent use of some sites.
This little device solves these problems nicely. It is even compact enough to carry around with my laptop. I bought two. One for laptop and one for desktop.
I can now move to stronger passwords without fear of forgetting them and then having to spend an hour each time I access a site working with support to find out my userid and password.
SHORTCOMINGS WITH THE DEVICE. My problems may be due to my lack of experience with the device. I don't know of a way to synchronize my passwords and userids between my laptop and desktop so I have to remember to enter the password into both machines almost simultaneously.
It seems to take an inordinate to get the device to memorize my fingerprints the first time. After that fingerprint recognition goes pretty fast.
After the fingerprint is recognized it takes the normal amount of response time to enter the password and user id and then for the device to press enter. Still better than working with support to get the password regenerated.
There is what looks like a protective covering over the scanners glass that in other devices comes off. I don't think it is meant to in this device. So now I have one with it on and one with it off with no ill effects yet.
No easy way to back up fingerprint, password, userid database. So if I ever have a crash with my new stronger passwords I will be dead meat for days.
BUT .....I LOVE IT
THE MAKER OF THE SOFTWRE IS A COMPANY NAMED Digital Personna - I suspect that they may have for fee options that address my concerns.
