Pros: Good story, the controls are so easy you forget you are using them.
Cons: Some of the worst music i've heard in a long time.
The bottom line: If you like survivial horror games you NEED this game.
I know that technically the first survival horror game was Alone in the Dark, but that game had some of the worst graphics i've ever seen, the worst controls, and was just plain not fun to play. Resident Evil is what most people consider to be the game that started survival horror games as we know them today.

Graphics:
The graphics are average by today's standards. Back when this game first came out the graphics we're amazing. They graphics in this game use the pre-rendered style... I just thought I would warn you because for some people this annoys them to no end, I like it though.

Sound and Music:
The music in Resident Evil: Directors Cut is really bad, but thats just my opinion. You might think differently. Its hard to explain it differently... Its like for some areas of the game they play the same 3 second music interval for a while area and it really gets annoying.

The same with the sound effects, I remember right after you leave the main "mansion" area of the game and go outside, they play the same 3 second noise of the dog the whole time you are outside, and they dont even take a large break in between.

Luckily, these flaws dont take away from the otherwise perfect game experience.

Story:
There have been reports of people getting attacked in the Arkalay Mountains, an area near the quiet town of Raccoon city. To investigate, the S.T.A.R.S (Special Tactics and Rescue Squad) are sent in to investigate. They have 2 groups, Alpha Team and Bravo Team. Bravo Team was the first to arrive at the designated location, but no response was heard from them. So then Alpha Team was sent and they find Bravo teams destroyed helicopter with nobody inside. Shortly after the members of Alpha Team are attacked by strange monsters and they run to get away. After running for a while they find a a HUGE mansion. They decide to take cover in there and thats right where the game begins. I wont spoil the rest for you.

Gameplay:
If you've played any other game in the series, or the Silent Hill series, you already have the controls mastered. You press the Left Analog Stick to run and you press R1 to Aim and X to fire, you can also use the square button to run faster. The controls work very nicely, i've always liked the way these controls are set up, they just fit. Sometimes you dont even realize you are doing it, you get so used to it.

The ammo in the game is very limited, so you need to be careful and think ahead before you start killing the enemies in this game. If you dont like to ration your ammo, you definately wont like this game, i've heard people complain about this everytime I reccommend them this game.
