Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing

You are flying into Raccoon City late at night. Your team is to investigate strange occurrences, including stories of people being ripped to shreds by ravenous monsters. All of the sudden your engine fails and your helicopter goes down. Soon you start to hear creatures moving in the dark forest. Then the silence is broken by the blood-curdling screams of your teammates. You try to shoot at the darkness where the monsters are, but the bullets do nothing--they are still chasing you. Finally you turn and run as fast as you can away from the monsters. You hear shrieks behind you; still you keep running. The monsters are quickly catching up to you, but then you come upon a haunted looking house. You dart inside, narrowly escaping the jaws of the ferocious creatures. You look around the mysterious house, but you cannot find any of your teammates, and the noises from the monsters grow louder...
This is the premise to Resident Evil, Playstation's greatest game ever. As soon as I heard about this game I bought it, and it has been one the best purchases I have ever made. This game is great from all aspects. It is a scarier game than any horror movie you will see in the theaters. It has the great shooter appeal that made Doom and Goldeneye such big hits. For those who don't like pure shooters, this game has countless puzzles that are required for your survival in this game. These are not your typical puzzles that just annoy you (as in so many other games), rather they are well planned, interactive puzzles that require you to think, but without turning the game into an endless brain teaser.
Also, this game was revolutionary for its field of horror/shooters. It has been incredibly successful (several sequels on many systems) and it has created several knock offs (like Silent Hill) because companies want to cash in on its success.
One problem that I have found with almost all games, is that they all are incredibly easy and are very short. Resident Evil has multiple difficulty levels and you can become two separate characters in the game. These two characters have completely different paths throughout the game, so essentially you are given two games in one. The game can last for several months for both characters as well, and codes revealed at the end of the game add even more fun.
Finally, I just want to say that this game gets you really involved in the story, which is full of mystery, double crossing, and more. This game has one of the best stories of any video game that I have played. It is so good that a movie based on the game is being produced right now. This couldn't be done on just any game (there is no Donkey Kong movie coming out, thank god!). Just go out and buy this game because it is as good if not better than any of the sequels that most people have played. You will not be disappointed in this purchase.
Note--For those who want a really good scare: start the game at midnight, turn out all the lights in the room, and listen to the game through headphones that you can plug into your TV. This will really scare the cr*p out of you. But, beware of jerk friends sneaking up on you when you do this--it may be funny, but you will jump through the ceiling.
