You start the game by selecting a character icon to use. There is a good assortment of icons to choose from meaning everyone can be satisfied. Then you put in your name and now your ready to play the masterpiece that is Lumines. You can choose from challenge which is the game mode that lets you unlock new icons and skins by meeting certain goals. There is also Time Attack which is getting rid of blocks as fast as you can to get a high score. Puzzle mode is where you are given a certain shape to make before the time runs out which unlocks skins also. Also there is 2 player mode that lets you play against a friend. There is also vs CPU mode in which you have to keep getting combos on your side of the board to make your opponents side smaller making it harder for them to get combos or a score eventually making the blocks fill the screen which makes your opponent lose. If you win you go to the next stage and you unlock a skin, icon, or both a skin and an icon. Finally there is single skin mode in which you have to try to get a high score. The basic flow of all these modes is that you are given a board that you have to try to keep clear like Tetris. You are given square blocks of 2 different colors and you have to create squares of 4 blocks of 1 color to get rid of the blocks. You can create combos of making bigger squares that net you more points. As you progress the game gets faster and faster. Also as you progress in challenge mode you get to new skins and the colors of the blocks change but you always have only 2 colors. This may seem like a piece of cake but in practice it gets harder and harder. Even though the game gets harder the game is always fun. If you love puzzle games this game is for you. Now excuse me as I go try to beat my current hi-score.
