Pros: A really enjoyable game, a fresh twist on a classic.
Cons: Too much unnecessary talking (pressing A for ten hours)
The bottom line: A good game, but not as "Super" as I'd hoped

I have been a fan of Paper Mario since day one, so I was very excited to receive this game for my birthday two weeks ago. I was really excited to play it, and I was disappointed to turn it on and have to go through half an hour of dialogue before I even did anything! That is one of my biggest annoyances with video games; if I'd wanted to watch a movie and press A - I would, but I want to PLAY!! So after all the talking, I got started on the game. The controls are easy to maneuver and the graphics are simple in that Paper Mario style. I was a little disappointed that the series strayed from the turn-by-turn battles that I had loved so much in the first two, but still pleased with the game overall. There weren't as many side quests as I was hoping for, but the levels were new and interesting. I enjoyed the opportunity to play as different characters than just Mario (Peach, Bowser and Luigi all join the party and you can play as any of them once they join you, and they have different tricks up their sleeve), and there was a great variety of pixls, who are the helpers of your party. The pixls give you different abilities, like the use of bombs, the ability to turn sideways, run, or defend yourself against the ever-present bad guys. The new aspect of this game is the ability to flip between the traditional 2D Paper Mario world and into 3D. Sometimes you find a secret pipe, or coins, or sometimes a lurking menace, but I thought it was a really nice way to bring the simplicity of Paper Mario into the 3D gaming world and the transition worked well.
Like most other reviewers of this game, I thought there were WAY too many cut scenes, and I got sick of all the a-pressing. The conversations were funny sometimes but didn't add to the story at all, and I ignored most of what they were saying.
I enjoyed the game, but I finished it in a about a week and haven't really played it since. I think you could probably rent this game over a weekend and save yourself fifty dollars because once I beat it I really didn't have any desire to go back and do any of it again.
