I just bought Turok 2 at Toys R Us for all of $9.98 plus tax. For that much, I figured I couldn't go wrong. I have been hearing a lot about this series of games and I figured that people must be buying them enough to warrant several sequels to the original.
The story behind Turok 2: Seeds of Evil is that you are a great warrior named Turok, and you are being sent to 'save the world' from an evil breed of genetically engineered dinosaur/humanoid hybrids who seek to destroy the human race. Your job is to kill them all and save a few people. Woo hoo!
This game features a nice array of weapons and plenty of gore. When you shoot an dinosaur-thing, you can see blood spurt out onto the wall or floor. I shot this one thing several times with my bow and you can see each arrow sticking out of the creature in the exact point where I hit him. Cool.
With each nicely-designed level, you have various things that you must accomplish, such as pulling levers to activiate this or that, saving children, etc. This is typical of most 3d shooters and you have to be really aware of your surroundings. If a wall looks funny, it's probably because you can knock it out with something. What's that barrel of gas next to wall for? Hmmmm.
I got the expansion pack to go along with playing this game, and I think it looks great. There are a lot of parts where you have a good bit of fog and the effects are done nicely. This keeps you from seeing certain creatures way off in the distance, so you have to go face to face against them.
My only complaint about this game is the controls. You will have to play for a good hour or so in order to get the movement down. It's that you have such a wide range of motion and such a huge environment that you have to really take the time to learn how to run and aim at the same time. Once you get used to that, you're good to go.
With nice level design, great graphics, and great sound, Turok 2 is an excellent bargain bin choice for the Nintendo 64.
