Lucas Arts gives us Star Wars, the fresh maker, I mean the nice Graphics Producer
Pros: Awesome graphics, realistic actions, everything
Cons: it ends!
The bottom line: If you don't have this game, and you have an N64, then go buy it, you'll like it. Especially if you're a Star Wars fan.
Full review
Ever since I got my N64, I had wanted a Star Wars game where I was in the cockpit of different air ships with a laser and special weapons. Then,
Star Wars Rogue Squadron, arrived for the N64.
Game Play
Theres not really any plot to the game, except finishing all the missions and earning gold medals for each one.
Before you start the game, you can choose your aircraft. Most levels have a specific ship that must be used in order to complete the mission, but once you beat it, you can go back and use any ship to screw around or whatever. Some of the ships are the X-Wing, Snow Speeder, and the Y-Bomber. When you put certain codes in, you can use a TIE Fighter, Millennium Falcon, and the Naboo Starfighter.
Once you choose your airship, you can start your first mission. As you complete each mission, the next one opens up.
In each level, you can earn a bronze, silver, or gold medal. The bronze medal evidently being the easiest to earn, silver being the medium difficulty to earn, and Gold being the hardest to acquire, especially on the last four or five missions. When earning a medal you must have a certain accuracy percentage, the number of enemies destroyed, the number of ally ships at the end of the mission, and for some missions, you must collect a bonus thats hidden somewhere on the level. You must also complete the mission in under a certain time. This really boosts the replay value of the game way up.
I think my favorite mission was the fourth one where when you are being attacked by 4 or 5 different TIE fighters and Han Solo, along with Chewbacca and the Millennium Falcon, swing in and help you out. Also, trying to figure out how to take out the AT-ATs could give someone a brain tumor.

Graphics 9/10
Ive got one thing to say about the graphics, amazing. This games graphics brought more hope to the N64 that more graphical games can be made on the N64. When you blow up a TIE Fighter, it looks so real that you wont believe it. I mean do you remember in the movies when you were coming directly at one and it just all exploded at once? Well its the same thing for the game. The ships are all detailed so well that they look very real.
Control 8/10
Because youre in a flying vehicle, youre not going to have the best turning capabilities in the world. When you miss something on your first flight through, youll have to take the long turn back, and then get at a far enough distance so you can have enough time to destroy whatever youre trying to explode.
Buttons are all in the general area, the A button is shoot, the C button is brakes and boost, and the Z and R buttons are brakes. Pretty easy if you ask me.
Sound 9/10
The FX are simply awesome. Theres not really any music, but you dont need music because the lasers and explosions will be enough. From the beginning, Ok team, lets get this over with, to your screaming allies as they crash, there are lots of different sounds for your ears to hear. Do you remember that high pitched noise that the TIE Fighters make? Well, theyre back, and theyre just like the movie, along with the whole game.
Overall 26/30
Buy this game. Along with the Expansion Pak, this game is one of the most beautiful games for the N64. Like the Super Smash Bros sequel coming to the Game Cube this fall,
Star Wars Rogue Leader:Rogue Squadron 2 is the sequel scheduled for release on the Game Cube.
