Full review
I first started playing this game at my cousin's house and after playing it there a few times, I had to have it. I bought it off of eBay and since then it has been nothing but replay value. I'm not even a big fan of golf and I am addicted to Mario Golf!
Graphics:
The graphics are typical Mario graphics: Cartoony, Smooth, and vibrant. The landscapes used for the courses are usually colorful and designed in the shape of a mushroom, ghost, or some type of familiar Mario-related character. For N64, they're pretty good, and look even better than Mario did.
Score: 8.5
Sound:
The music is kind of overly-cheery and the melodies start to sound the same after a while, but doesn't detract from the gameplay in any way. The sound effects are good, especially when you hit the ball perfectly and it gets set on fire. You know when you hit the sweet spot just from the *Ping* you hear as the club strikes the ball.
Score: 8
Gameplay:
The game can be played a variety of different ways. You can choose the Character Mode, where you play for a new character(this is the most challenging and fun), Tournament, Mini Golf, Ring Shots, Speed Golf, and Multiplayer. The multiplayer really adds to the depth to the game, and needless to say, its a lot more fun when go head to head with your friends.
The game is actually a very realistic golf simulation with many different factors playing on the ball and the shot you make. Sometimes you must compensate for the wind, use a "power shot", or put a spin on the ball when you need it to stick to the top of a hill. The course can be viewed from every angle with the camera and a grid shows where the shot will land.
Score:9
Overall, it is a great game for fans of golf and non-fans alike. You will get hours of entertainment and challenges which will take a while to finally beat. Half of the fun is gradually developing the skills, gaining experience, and learning the tricks needed to beat the game (not to mention, beat your friends).
Final Score: 9
