Duke Nukem returns to the N64 with some intense alien shooting action ,
bigger weapons , and the babes ! Even though the game could have been
better in some points of the game , you just can't help and enjoy shooting
those darn aliens with 19 huge weapons. The graphics do get muddy , and
maybe some levels are pretty boring , but that old Duke Nukem feeling
takes over that will make you say , "Let's Nukem".
The graphics in Zero Hour look like those from its cousin on Playstation ,
Duke Nukem : Time to Kill. Unless you have an Expansion Pack you will
have to sit back and get a migraine every time you play. On the good side,
the game does have some nice looking backrounds that go from New York City
to London. The weapons , the girls , the vehicles , and the enemies look
nice , but you won't enjoy any of that unless you get an Expansion Pak.
The sound in Zero Hour is good. The music changes throughout the levels.
You can hear some hard rockin' tunes in some levels , and you can hear
old , scary violin scratches on the next. Yet , some of tunes of some
levels are very similar to those for other levels. Good old Duke also
talks throughout the levels with humorous comments reacting to what's
happening. Each character talks as well , even the babes you have to save.
The sound section of the game is a little better than average , but could
have been better.
The huge worlds in Zero Hour are full of secret places to explore. Each
level has a certain amount of babes that you have to save . In the end ,
you only have one clear objective which is to get the time machine part
and get out of there alive. If you manage to get every babe and find every
secret , you'll get a new cheat opened up in the cheat menu. (This is
not a very simple task) All of the secrets , babes , and difficult worlds
add to the replay value.
"Don't forget the multiplayer modes," you say ? Well this a very nice part
of the game because you will have fun. There are four types of multiplayer
modes.Dukematch , Last Man Standing , King of The Hill , and Team Dukematch. It is very fun , but this is where the graphics might kick in
again. You might notice that everything on the screen doesn't look quite
as good as the 1-Player mode looks like. This is where you might think
of getting an Expansion Pak.
If you're a Duke Nukem fan , go on ahead and get the game. It has that old
Duke Nukem feeling to it all the way. If you are looking for a very good
shooting game that is way better than any game , go for Perfect Dark or
Goldeneye 007. This game is just a bit better than average.
