Pros: Fun multiplayer game----graphics rock-----sound is amazing
Cons: Low replay value
Full review
Since the system`s debut, a handful of soccer games came around. Some were a disappointed miss, while others were a notch above the rest. World Cup 98 is now the icing on the cake.
Graphics couldn't be better. They are clean, rarely or maybe never jumble up or become a problem. Action is clear to see, ball is visible, the player handling it can also be seen very well, no problems here.
Sound is top notch. Plays are called properly, but comments run a bit too repetitive. Nothing to complain about, but something could have been done. Screaming of the fans, the yells of the players, the kicking of the ball, it's all done properly.
Control is excellent. The training will help you, because it could be a little frustrating, but the learning curve is not steep at all, so you`ll be out playing in no time.
Gameplay is good, but it fails to give the game a decent replay value. I find myself staring at the cartridge, wondering what else I can do with the game. Training is not bad, the many different choices of drills tends to give it more depth, but you'll get bored of it quickly. World Cup League isn't much different then playing several exhibition games back to back---nothing special there. The Cup classics, which allows you to go back in time and play in the past with old teams is a refreshing new spin, but falls short in replay value.
It's the best soccer game out there, no doubt, but I think it's not worth much more than a rental. Check it out yourself, maybe you`ll enjoy it more than I did.
