Full review

So, last Wednesday, I got home from classes, changed into my sweatpants and comfy shirt, and sat down to watch TV.

Then, the phone call came! Electronics Boutique was calling to tell me that my copies of Pokemon Gold and Silver had come in, You see, about a month ago, my boyfriend and I preordered the game, and we didn't expect it in this early. So, the two of us rushed eagerly off to the mall.

To make a long story short, I love Pokemon Silver. If you have any of the other versions (red, blue, yellow) you will love the new features. If you have not played any of the Pokemon games and are still curious, try out Gold or Silver- you'll like them.

To begin with, Silver (my boyfriend got Gold) is packed with a ton of extra enhancements. The first thing I did when starting the game was enter in the time. The internal clock affects the time of day. This means that some Pokemon can only be found during the day, and others can only be found at night. Furthermore, you can only do certain things on certain days. You also receive a "cellular phone" and trainers will call you to ask for rematches.

The best thing about Silver is the new Pokemon. There are about a hundred new Pokemon to catch in the game. Also, if you leave two Pokemon of the opposite sex (Pokemon have genders now!) at the daycare, you might come back to find that they have produced an egg that will hatch into a baby Pokemon. Also, if you use special items on some of the Pokemon from the original, you can evolve them into brand new Pokemon, including two new evolutions for Eevee. Finally, the game features two whole new categories of Pokemon: Dark and Metal.

The game appears to be about twice as long as the first series. In addition to the new land you battle in, you will also travel to the land featured in the originals. That means that Silver had two lands with 8 gyms each! So much for midterms and homework!

After about halfway through the game, you access a time machine that allows you to transfer Pokemon from your Red, Yellow, and Blue games.

The graphics are a lot nicer in Silver than they were in the earlier games. This is most notable on the Game Boy Color, but things still look nice on black and white Game Boy. Also, battle animation is much crisper and visually pleasing. The music in the game is just as bouncy and fun as it was in the originals, but with a new feature: you earn a radio card that allows you to listen to the "radio" which can change the background music.

Overall, if you have any remote interest whatsoever in Pokemon, you need to get Gold or Silver. You will not be disappointed. I am looking forward to many, many hours of Pokemon fun.
