Gotta Catch'em all... again

Pros: 251 Pokemon, More complex. Better than the originals.
Cons: Need the other games to get all 251, Older gamers might still be detered because of its cuteness.

Imagine yourself as a youngboy growing up in the mystical world of Pokemone. You talk to the local professor and he gives you a pokemon to set off on your journey. Where your rival and the world awaits.

Pokemon has very simply gameplay, use your pokemon to defeat the gym leaders and to gain access to other things in the game. You will also use your pokemon to capture other pokemon. Simple as that. Throughout the game there is some puzzle solving and such. But nothing too hard.

Pokemon Silver/Gold are great sequels to the original Pokemon games. The addition of 100 new pokemon and 2 new types is a welcome. Along with that the game actually has clock. When you turn on the game it asks for the day and time. So if you play it at midnight, it will be midnight in the game. Therefore it will be dark outside, the lighting changes due to the time. And of course only certain pokemon can be caught in the morning while some others can only be caught at night. So you have to play the game throughout the day. There will be certain events that will happen on certain days like the Bug-catching contest will only happen Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. So you have to pay attention on whats happening.

You have more gear now too. Your Pack will now categorize items to organize it better. Theres a Pokeball, item, Key, and TM pockets. So you don't have look for items as hard as you did in Blue, Yellow and Red. You also have PokeGear, which includes your watch, the Map, radio, and Cellphone. These aren't items so you'll carry it no matter what. The Cell phone is used to contact other trainers that you ran into before. That is useful because they will contact you on certain events, and some will even challenge you to a trainer battle. Trading your pokemon is more restricted now. You can import any pokemon from your Red, Blue or Yellow but there are new attacks that weren't in the previous games. So if your old Pokemon learn moves that aren't in the other games it can't be returned. (luckily there is a girl out there that will make your Pokemon forget moves if desire to put them back.) And of course the new Pokemon can't go in to Red, Blue or Yellow.

The two new types are Dark and Steel. Dark is the answer to Psychic. Did you notice that Mewtwo/Mew were probably the most powerful in the game, and no one pokemon could beat them. Well now Dark can shred Psychics. Dark do have weaknesses too, Fighting, Bug, and one more. Steel is much like Ground and Rock without the weakness to Water, but they do have weaknesses to fighting, Fire, and Rock. So pokemon are more evenly matched, now that each type has major weaknesses to exploit. There are also new attacks. Theres a new Bug attack called Mega horn, most powerful bug move, that can probably work really well against Psychic and Dark. So you'll see trainers remove multiple Mewtwos from thier bench and start using more practical tactics of putting several types in place of Psychic.

The Graphics aren't too much better than the previous ones. But the Gameboy Color graphics are rather pretty. It uses 56 colors at one time, which really looks nice when your traveling around. Like I stated before, the lighting changes too when the time does. This way it seems a little bit more realistic. The Sound isn't too much better either. The music is changed from the original but nothing too drastic. The Sound of the attacks and music are pretty good. But nothing spectacular.

Pokemon Silver and Gold are solid games. If you liked the first ones, you'll love these. Silver/Gold are much more complex than the other ones. These games might even attract an older audience. Silver/Gold fill in the holes that Red/Blue/Yellow had. Problem is that none of the starters from the originals, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, can be caught. Along with Zapdos, Moltres, Articuno, Mewtwo, Mew, Omanyte, Omastar, Kabuto, and Kabutops. So if you want them, you'll have to trade them in. But other than that, Pokemon Silver and Gold are games that will take you a long while to complete. Heres a small spoiler: once you got the 8 Johto badges, your not done, there are more badges and the last guy you have to beat has Pikachu, Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, Snorlax and an Espeon, who else do you know has a Pikachu and the other 3 starters? Your in a long journey trainer so get some batteries and set aside a couple of weeks.
