When the first Rush was released, no one knew what it was. Was it a racer? Was it a action game? Whatever it was, it was fun to play b/c no other racing game would dare to have their cars do barrel rolls down sky scrapers while in the end falling belly up, the result causing a massive explosion to occur. It's been quite some time since a sequal to the arcade was released, but now that San Fransisco RUSH 2049 came out, the wait was well worth it as the arcade port invades your dreamcast, making you kiss that thing called your life bye bye.
Graphics:(9/10) Not only a port, but a port that makes the arcade look bad. The graphics are top notch! Cars are fully detailed with the sky reflecting off their candy coated shells. Skyscrapers invade the screen as you tear up the track behind you, best of all they it plays silky smooth, everything flows with the race as you go on, clipping or pop up at all, only time in which the frame rate would suffer is when your in multiplayer mode, but it's not to noticable. Tracks are designed extrmely well, each one having it's own theme, making you point out landmarks only found in San Fransisco. No matter if it be sunny skied marina track with it's monster fall, or the night light of the metro track, with buildings causing you to race in tight spots as you see trollies ride in the middle of the same street as you race on. Nothing here is put to shame, for it looks better then actual arcade.
Sound:(8/10) When your faced with a futuristic setting, your bound to get hit with that eletronic beat, called techno, and guess what, it's not bad at all! As i said, each stage has it's own theme for both design and music, making it absorb well when the two are combined. Sound effects are all there with engines roaring as you race over 200mph, to the breaks that sound as if they are actually ripping the pavement apart, heck you'll cringe as you see your retro car hug the wall hearing the metal screech, with sparks dancing off the walls. Only downfall I would point out is the dull explosion sound you get when your car lands nose first as you land back on earth from your huge hangtime.
Control:(9/10) Unlike most racing games, anyone will be able to pick this game up and blast off as you make your opponents eat the burning rubber off your tires. All you'll need to know is the brake, accelration, and having the IQ of moving your car, thats it. Car add-ons will effect your driving skills (especially the slick tires) so the control really varies on how you set up your car, but other the cars handeling is smooth as a baby's @$$.
Replay Value:(10/10) While the title might just say RUSH 2049, making you believe you just bought one game, you'll soon realize that your the proud owner of 3 (circuit, stunt, battle) games! Stunt mode is will make Tony Hawk's 900 stunt look like trash when your air is ripping up the air doing barrel rolls, twists, loops, perfect circles, flips, and tight 360 road burns. Heck this one mode is so sweet, If it were to be sold seperate, I would buy it! The there is the battle mode, much like Twisted Metal, and Vigilante 8, your driving your car, hoping to find your enemy as you nuke him/her with killer weapons, making it survival of the fittest. And last but not least there is the circuit mode, probably the mode that is not that eye catching when compared to the other two, you'll race in circuits, each advancing as you win races. Oh, and if you want to collect all the gold and silver coins (for getting extra cars, tracks, etc.) then your goanna have to play em all and enjoy the ride, just be sure to bye to your friends as you close yourself from them for a long time.
Overall: (9) With 3 seperate games all rolled into one, how could you not pick it up. It has everything that every person would want, and being that anybody can pick this up and be pulling off barrel rolls whine in the second lap of their advanced circuit makes this a superb game. So call your friends, enemies, neighboors, family, siblings, heck even your boss and toss up a game of RUSH 2049 now!
