F355... Sega finish in pole position again
Pros: stunning graphics, good gameplay
Cons: hard to get to grips with
Full review
With outstanding graphics, this simulator is challenging, involving and addictive, as Sega finally bring the ultimate driving experience to the Dreamcast.
Having seen so many arcade games fail once transferred to console, I hadn't held out much hope for this game. However, much to my surprise, it was extremely playable, and had few faults.
The arcade machine was played via use of three screens, but with the 3d effect the Dreamcast has, things look just as good.
The computer AI (artificial intelligence) is very advanced, showing off some of the Dreamcast's potential, and other cars actually try and run you off the track.
Being one of the hardest racing games out for this console, and with a wide range of courses, this game should keep you addicted for weeks on end.
Although the soundtrack to the game is very average, the sound effects make up for it.
Handling can be a problem at first, but as you win races and tune cars, this can soon be overcome, and after a while handling becomes second nature.
I would recommend F355 to any experienced gamer, although people new to the Dreamcast might prefer something more to the style of Wacky Racers, which, although not to the same standard as this game, is much easier to get to grips with while at the same time entertaining.
This game is well worth buying, being probably the best of the vast selection of racing games out for the Dreamcast, perhaps with the exception of Tokyo Highway Challenge 2.
